Great quality televisionBy PalmettoI don't have a lot of high definition (HD) content available to me, but this TV does great with standard definition TV and DVDs. The black levels are darker on this generation than previous year Samsungs. I personally don't like the look of Plasma TVs, and LCDs are still a little expensive for the largest models, so right now, DLP is the best type of TV technology for larger sizes at a reasonable price.Be sure you use the best possible connection from your video sources to this TV for the best possible picture. Hopefully you have at least S-Video (out) on your satellite or cable box and component (out) on your DVD player. Get some good cables (gold connectors), but you don't need the very high cost premium cables.I also looked at the 50" and 56" versions of this TV, but this size is the best for my room based on viewing distance. IMO, you should choose the size of your TV based on the viewing distance. A rough formula is to divide your viewing distance (in inches) by 2 and also divide your viewing distance by 3. Your TV diagonal size should fall between those sizes. In my case, our viewing distance is at about 12 feet (144 inches) => 144/2 = 72 inches, and 144/3 = 48 inches. Then pick a TV with a diagonal between those numbers.The lower end of the range will be more like your standard TV viewing and the upper end will be more like a movie theater, "immersive" experience. Choose what's best for you.EDITUpdate as of October 2006: We still love this TV. There are other reviews here that indicate bulb problems. If your bulb does go out, it is a user repairable item, no need for a tech to look at it. Just order from samsung's replacement part site. Bulbs should last for about 5,000 hours. Samsung PN59D8000 - Excellent Networked HDTVBy MICHAEL A DERBYI just up-graded my older DLP rear-projection HDTVs to new flat screens. I chose the PN59D8000 plasma for my main TV due to its superior 3D performance compared to LED LCDs. I've lived with it for about a month, so can't comment on long-term reliability, but my previous Samsung LCD & DLP HDTVs had no problems over several years.The picture on this TV is amazing - easily among the best that I have seen among all other plasmas. Blacks are very black and the color can quickly be adjusted from fairly intense (dynamic) to muted (movie) by the standard pre-sets. As usual, there are multiple picture adjustments that can tailor the picture to one's exact preference.The 3D image is very good, with no ghosting and with very good depth. Samsung moved this year to Bluetooth shutter glasses and this makes a world of difference. My previous experience with IR shutter glasses from several manufacturers required that one not move around much (or even look around the room). Now I can wander into the kitchen for popcorn and still be seamlessly in synch when I return to the TV. Sound is OK and includes a pseudo-surround sound setting, but I run sound output run through my home theater receiver, so I can't really comment.The PN59D8000 is among Samsung's net-enabled "Smart TVs" which gives you access to a lot of apps as well as a net browser. I have the TV connected via ethernet, so I can't comment on the quality of the wireless access, but the ethernet connection works very well for most apps. Any problems with connectivity appear to be due to Comcast (since any problems seem to be shared with my computer). The QWERTY side of the remote works as advertised, but does take a little getting used to. **** An important note: For the initial pairing process for the remote, make sure that you hold the remote directly in front of the TV (as in 5" or so) or it will fail to pair properly. Once paired, however, it works all over the room. My only complaint is that the browser seems vvvveeeerrrryyy slow. Finally, Samsung has moved to an "e-manual" (even including a specific button on the remote labeled "E-MANUAL") rather than including a detailed paper manual. A major advantage is that it is easily searchable (as contrasted with the poor and inadequate index seen in most paper manuals) and can be constantly updated if accessed over the net. Why get an LCD panel?By A. ChungI was struggling between this TV and the G25. The Panasonic did have warmer colors and performed better with motion however, I could not stand the grain. Returned it eventually and got this Samsung. I am MUCH happier with it. I would recommend the Panasonic only if you have a very dark room (even during the day) and plan on only watching movies but for overall, everyday use I would go with the Samsung. Even though the Panasonic had better anti-reflective screen - Great PQ, less grain- Much more refined user-friendly interface and bezel - Super thin- Surprisingly better sound than the Panny- Colors 'popped' out more like LCD, G25 definitely has more realistic colors (esp. during dark room viewing)- Great response rate with gaming - Plasma is the way to go if you're a game- BUZZ - my first C6500 was terrible, it sounded like there was a beehive in the back of my TV, switched it out and got a July 2010 build ^^ and am happy to report that it's SUPER faint; only noticeable when you put your ear up to the screen. So if you're super paranoid about it, try to request the latest build.- No rising blacks :)- Does get warm but that's expected with all plasmas- Does not deal as well as the Panasonic with fast motion/panning- IR was there with the first one I got, but with the July 2010 build it is virtually nonexistent. And even if you do get one with IR it goes away after a minute- Better SD performanceIf you are looking for a reference plasma in your TV for your home theater, look elsewhere (G25). Awesome TV with a few shortfallsBy E. BociI purchased this TV as a replacement for an older JVC DLP 1080i set. The colors and details are amazing! Playing PS3 games and blu ray movies on a plasma are everything I've read about. There has been absolutely no blurring during action movies like some LCD's can have. I don't know how it compares to some of the "industry's finest" plasmas, like a Kuro, but from what I've seen, the black levels have been superb. I describe myself as a pretty technical person, so I really appreciate all of the adjustments available on the 7000 series. I would liked to have purchased the PN50C8000, with pro calibration controls, but it wasn't available to me at the time I purchased this model. Adding to the geek appeal is the internet functionality. I am able to connect it directly to a LAN cable, so all internet widgets and video streaming are quick and don't lag. Possibly one of the greatest connection feature has to be the USB connection. I have a 1 TB external hdd filled with movies and video. I have only encountered one obscure file format that the TV hasn't been able to play. It will even play .mkv files! There have only been a few downfalls to this TV. From the time I turned it on for the first time, there has been a buzzing noise emitting from the screen. I can't pinpoint the exact location, but you can hear it when you would like to have the volume lower (like when our baby is taking a nap). Apparently this has been an ongoing issue with Samsung TV's, and it seems that I have been one of the latest victims. I am still unsure how I am going to handle this buzz (take it back to Best Buy or call Samsung). This is probably expected with how thin these displays are, but the sound is pretty tinney and doesn't have a lot of quality. Most people will probably want to purchase a sound bar or have a home theater set up, like I do, so it really isn't that big of a deal. The only other thing, which is inherent in plasma screens (no matter what the companies tell you), is burning images. I've read all over the internet that modern plasma displays are not supposed to be susceptible to this problem, but let me tell you, if you leave your DVR paused for more than a few minutes on a bright screen or an image with a prominent network icon (Discovery Channel HD), you will definitely see an image for a little while. The TV has features to minimize or allow the pixels to "unburn" itself, but you need to be careful anyways. The only complaint is I spent my 1st whole night wondering why all my shows looked the Soap Operas. Turns out this is caused by Samsung "Auto Motion Plus" feature that adds extra calculated frames to the video stream. Turning this off made the picture look as I expected (i.e. Law and Order's proper gritty/jerky camera motion when the detectives are on the street). When this mode is off the tv is still running at 240Hz, but shows the same frames unaltered over and over just like the movie theater does rather than trying to "make stuff up" in between frames. No better 46" LCD - period!By B. ReardonI searched for a flat-screen tv for a couple of months, and finally chose the 4665. I chose the size of the TV based on my room, and decided 50 was too big and 42 too small. This left me without a decision on plasma vs lcd, which was ok with me. Plasma has more basic issues, and going LCD was not a sacrifice - except I had yet to see a LCD with black blacks, so I was not sure what I would see in the 46" range. As for price range, I decided that I was going to buy the tv that I was happiest with. It was not that I have unlimited budget, just that I wanted to make sure that I would going to be completely satisfied with a 2-3k purchase. I really only knew about the plasma tv's in 42" 720p, so I had a lot of research to do to understand what to buy.After reading hundreds of reviews and going to several stores to comparison shop, I was basically down to three Samsung models. I was considering the LN-T4665F, LN-T4661F and the LNS4696. Going straight by the specs, the 4665 looked to be the best because of the 15000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. With this in mind, I was confused to see that BestBuy has the 4696 in their Magnolia section and not the 4665 - my only guess is that it is because the 4665 does not have a cableCard slot. After lots of playing I was more than happy with each of the TVs, and my choices were narrowed down by wanting more hdmi's right on the set, wanting the best possible contrast, and the glossy screen on the 4665. I have seen several complaints about the glossy screen, however this was a selling feature for me - for the same reason that I ordered a MacBook Pro with the glossy screen - I just think that it makes moves look better. I can deal with reflection during the day to get a picture that I am happier with when watching a movie at night. I must say that I am extremely impressed so far. I have not had a single image problem yet, and the setup was clearly the worst part of this tv. All-in-all, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. So here's my brief summary of the high/low points:Pros: 1. (3) HDMI inputs 2. Excellent contrast - forget the numbers, as they are fiction - the blacks are black 3. Glossy screen - movies spectacular - Toy Story is mind-blowing! 4. Weight - This is one of the newer, lighter sets 5. Price - Not that this set was cheap, but I liked this over the Sony and would have spent another $1,000 to get a comparable Sony - and I hate the glass around the Sony'sCons: 1. It is razor thin compared to plasma models and the small, charcoal colored bezel gives it a classy look. I previously had a Samsung 50 inch plasma and I was quite surprised that the D7000 at 51" is about 5 inches smaller (in width) than my previous TV (yet the screen is bigger). They really have slimmed the bezel down in the last 3 years.Picture Quality: Superb. Awesome. Incredible. I cannot say it any clearer. Crisp, clean, vibrant images that leave my mouth dropping. Blu-ray is incredible. My daughter has some Tinkerbell movie on Blu-Ray and the picture quality is INCREDIBLE. I actually don't mind watching Tinkerbell anymore... DirectTV HD is also flawless. ESPNHD, FoxNews and even the Disney channel look amazing. 600 Hz for Sports is the way to go- none of this 240 Hz LED crap... Plasma is DEFINITELY the way to go for sports folks!I did notice that the "Eco" setting does result in some random dimming of the image as previously stated by other reviews. I turned that fetcher off and everything is perfect. I actually went with the D7000 because of the "Real Black Filter" feature. I don't know if it makes a huge difference, but I do notice less glare than the previous model I had in a well lit room, and the blacks do look deeper and richer.3D Quality: I watched Shrek in 3D right after hooking it up. I hate that damn movie, but it was pretty impressive in 3D. I have DirectTV and am still trying to figure out how to pipe the 3D channels to my TV...stay tuned. The 2D-to-3D feature is pretty cool too. It is not as good, dare I say, as Shrek on Blu-ray...but it is pretty cool and does a fair job.Sound: Quality is fine. It does seem to require a higher setting than my previous TV, which just means that you have more control over the intensity of sound.Features: There are 4 HDMI inputs in the rear of the TV. I have a blu-ray, DirectTV receiver and a computer hooked up to this puppy. The remote is the same remote that has come with the past few blu-ray models. Doesn't matter to me, as I use the DirectTV remote for everything.Overall, I'd give this thing 5 stars and would recommend to anyone. Amazon was great to deal with and it is by far the best price around. I don't really care about app support since I own both an Xbox 360 and PS3 which should have me covered on any apps that the more feature loaded TVs may include. I've had this TV for roughly 5 days now and I've been putting it through its paces. The TV is wonderful and provides an absolutely stunning picture when properly calibrated. Colors are accurate and black levels are excellent! With my pioneer 1020 amplifier/Orb satellite/Anthony Gallo Adiva Ti/Hsu sub powered sound system, I really have a nice Home theater setup now! I have a PS3, Xbox 360 (both of which are capable of 3d) and have played a few games on the PS3 since there is just 1 xbox 360 game which take advantage of the tech currently (the very bad Avatar game). We received the 3d bundle w/ the TV which includes 2 active shutter glasses and the monsters vs. 3d movie which implements the stereoscopic effect very well! The TV exhibits literally no ghosting effect which has plagued some of the LCD/LED backlit TVs out there. Plasmas tend to fair better due to their high refresh rates. I also purchased it from an online vendor other than Amazon and got a very good deal on an amazing TV/3d glasses bundle. However, if Amazon had a similar price, I would not hesitate to purchase from Amazon.com. I have been very happy with their service and am largely loyal customer to the site when the price is right. Overall, I am incredibly happy with this purchase, my previous 37" Sharp Aquos looks like a baby TV next to this beautiful monstrosity. Better than 2009's Samsung edge lit LED LCD's...just not enough to eliminate a few issues/flawsBy A. LeethamI've owned this television for a few weeks now, and I've been putting it through a battery of tests using a variety of different sources and room lighting conditions. To get right to the point, I am returning it -- it will be picked up this week -- and waiting for either the UNC8000 precision dimming edge lit led set, or perhaps either the XBR-HX900 or XBR-LX900 from Sony. The C7000 is a good TV. It compares favorably -- if not signficantly so -- to any of the edge lit led lcd's that Samsung released in 2009. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the UNB8500 that was released late in 2009. It is also outperformed by Vizio's latest (552), the Sony XBR 8, and even LG's LH 90 gives it a run for it's money and outperforms it in a few important areas. Essentially the performance of the C7000 is either matched or exceeded by multiple televisions that cost significantly less. If you are not a videophile and do not concentrate on picture performance in a completely darkened room, I'm sure this television will suit you just fine. However, if you are a videophile and/or picture performance in a completely darkened room and accurate reproduction of theater film viewing is very important to you, this television is not for you. This TV exhibits many of the same problems that plagued Samsung's 2009 series of edge lit led's -- namely, a lot of light shining through from the corners, top and bottom, and sides of the picture while viewing in a darkened room -- and does not perform the way you would hope for a television that costs this much. Samsung did improve upon the fluctuating back light problems of last years edge lit led's. This television does not have a fluctuating back light problem at all. However, I must come back to the issue of light shining through from the edges of the screen. It's a big concern for anybody who wants to reproduce a natural theater experience and view films the way they were meant to be seen. You simply cannot recreate that experience with this television. When you view a film -- or any other content -- in a completely darkened room, it is impossible not to notice the light shining in from the edges. That is a huge problem for a lot of us. I will say that when you are viewing a film in a bright room, this television is an outstanding performer. It is also an excellent performer for viewing sporting events, animated features, and other lively bright content in a brightly lit room. Of course, most of us do not wish to pay $3,300 to only be completely happy with our televisions when we are watching them in a brightly lit room. The light shining in from the edges also creates the potential to create a lot of problems with 3D viewing once we have sufficient 3D content available. An Awesome TV for the priceBy Tayadidas8I have owned this TV for about a week now. It's my 4th Samsung flat screen. I upgraded from a Samsung LN46A550 to the 46" version of this TV but had to return it because the picture was flickering really bad in 1080i, and to be quite honest the ultra thin frame around the screen makes the TV look smaller than my old TV. So I decided to upgrade to the 55". The picture quality pretty breath taking! I already notice a huge difference from going to 60hz refresh rate to 120hz. When I watch Avitar it almost looks 3D (even though it's not the 3D version). I haven't quite had time to fully calibrate the settins so the colors are still a little washed out but the clarity is excellent especially for a 55". I'll have to admit the the 46" version of this tv's picture did look better but it was also 9" smaller with the same resolution. The sound is a lot better than I expected. Usually the sound on flat screen tv's are pretty poor but I'm actually pretty impressed, very clear and deep.I have noticed some "flashlight" effect on the corners of the TV screen. And I've heard that this bothers a lot of people and can be a problem. I only notice it on very dark scenes or when there are bars on the top and bottom and it's not too obvious. I've heard that if you loosen the screws around the bezel in the back that it will help this problem. But it doesn't bother me too much yet. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase especially for the price. It has to be one of the best 55" LED tvs for under $1600. After having spent a lot of time wading through it, passively and actively (debating it in threads), I came to the conclusion that I would get this set for a number of reasons:1. I was not convinced by the people who were claiming that there were serious issues with this TV. One reviewer claimed to have seen trails in large dark objects. I went to the store and found NO ability to see it, and it was right next to the 750 (and a lot of other sets). As to the LED being edge and thus the lighting being inconsistent, ditto. I am not saying that it's all lies and local dimming is useless. I am saying that it's not something I can see right now (and that's really all I care about).2. This set is INSANELY thin. I have a space for mine where this actually makes a big difference. 3. I like to vote with my dollars. This is the lowest consuming television ever made. The CNET list of sets showed that the range was 8:1, which is pretty phenomenal if you think about it; in cars, mileage is not even that spread out. This is a REMARKABLE achievement and it's a drag to hear people whining about dumb little imperfections that 99% of people would never see while they are buying from the other end of the spectrum. Of course, the amount of energy less you are going to use is not going to make a revolution, but a tiny percentage of all TVs using this amount would make a huge difference (game theory 101).The biggest difference from my prior set (Westinghouse LCD) is this one actually has blacks. The controls, menus, remote, etc., are all fine (I use a universal remote). Having a bunch of HDMI ports is great. I plugged in the connection to the web and looked at the Yahoo Widgets. Calling them useless at this point is an understatement. Should be interesting to see what is coming from that direction. The argument that if the 750 looks just as good, save the money and get that is a compelling one. In terms of value overall, I paid ~$1500 for my 42" Westinghouse 3 years ago. I just replaced it because it had developed background noise (patterns you could see). B33N A MONTH ALREADYBy RapStarHooked up this plasma to the a TV frame in the wall. It is so thin that even with the bracket, it is still flush against the wall. Hooked up to a Yamaha A2000 7.1 with Harmon Kardon series 60. The setup is beyond anything I could of ever imaged.At first, I felt there was no need to upgrade. I only wanted a larger TV. Currently all HDTV's are pretty much 1080p. The apps are all found on my PS3. The 3D is amazing but doesn't scream at me to go and upgrade. I then got this TV versus my original Sony XBR 46 LCD. Both TV's are 1080p but I was being robbed by the LCD. I will never switch to anything but Plasma again. I tested the new Samsung D8000 and Sony 3D Tv's 2011 models LED and the 3D hurt my eyes. The LED is bright, I mean Head Ache bright. I am not sensitive at ALL. Currently, I am using the Sony PS3 to handle my Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray. It doesn't even have a 1.4 hdmi outlet or HD sound and I am blown away at how amazingly different it is from the Sony. All my wires are Monster HDMI M2000. I have one AudioQuest Chocolate. Not by choice. If you are going to buy a new TV, do not waste your money on another TV. Get this one. It will save you a lot of money and do its job for the next couple of years I'm assuming until there is really a reason to go upgrade. They currently have the technology but have no reason for upgrades. The problem is, we still havn't used what we have to there full potential yet. Last thing I have to say, Calibrated it 3 times using different blu rays. The Disney WOW was my favorite. The settings are almost DEAD-ON perfect right out of the box. I tweaked only Brightness, Contrast, Color, and Gamma. The blacks, whites and grays are to perfect. BIG, good sound, great 3D, comes with two pairs of glasses, great picture adjustment controls, attractive dark glass bezel as opposed to cheap plastic, light weight, etc...Cons: Screen glare, may not be suitable for some extreme sun mounting locations. Acceptable in my bright two story living room and west facing wall.Bought a mid-grade LED for $2,100. Sure the picture had more "pop" but even after making all the adjustments; athletes running (esp baseball players running in the outfield) had a haze around them, even a little off center viewing turned blacks into grays, had to turn off the 240Mhz due to jutter, did not include 3D glasses, etc. All unacceptable for a TV over $2k. This mid grade plasma was $1,600 at Best Buy and included 2 pairs of glasses and blows away the equivalent grade LED. You will not be disappointed. Awesome for sports. Great TV - Great ServiceBy Jimmy DOrdered this TV from Amazon on Sunday night October 22. It was delivered on Thursday, October 26. It came direct from Amazon and had free shipping. It's strange, sometimes Amazon has it, and sometimes it's available from a 3rd party. In any event, I paid $1,999 with free shipping. The delivery was prompt and arrived in excellent condition. My son works with ESPN as a Technical Director and he helped me select the TV. He's a technical whiz at this stuff. We visited several stores and looked at various makes. He was trying to steer me to a DLP but I didn't like the narrow viewing angle and it would not have suited my room. I originally wanted a 42" plasma but discovered I had to stick to a 40" since my TV room is somewhat small. We finally narrowed it down to Toshiba, Sony, & Panasonic. Because I needed a 40", I had to go to an LCD or the Panny 37" plasma, which to me was too small.Not sorry I went LCD. I has no screen glare or burn-in problems, although I understand the plasmas now have the burn-in under control. And, it seems I sacrificed nothing as far as the picture quality goes. We finally chose the Samsung. The Samsungs have it over the other TV's in the same price range both for features and picture quality. We were almost going to get the LN-S4092D, but then we saw this model which has 1080p capability. While not being used now, it is a feature for the future. Also, look for a unit with dual HDMI inputs. You may not need both now, but you will like it later. When you go into a store, first thing is to tone down the TV's you're looking at. They have them cranked up to max contrast & brightness. Usually the sets will have a "movie" viewing mode. Change it to that. If they don't have that, cut the contrast and brightness to at least 60-75%, the sharpness to 10% or less, and the color temp to a "warm" setting. That will tone it down to a good level tha will allow you to see the TV's real capabilities. Then, have the salesman put a real SD signal through it. Not a pre-recorded looped signal that splits the screen HD/SD. On some of those they exagerate the SD bluriness to make the HD look better. This Samsung has a great SD picture. Yes, it's not HD, but it's very acceptable and not much worse than my old CRT TV. The HD picture is fabulous. I am in NJ and we have Comcast Digital cable with a DVR. I was watching the World Series last night and when they had a close up of the pitcher, you could count his wiskers. The side-to-side viewing fades a little when you get too far, but it's not real noticable and who watches from that extreme angle anyway? The swivel stand helps.The sound is good TV sound. It's not home-theater quality, but it's good. It has a built-in graphic equalizer so you can customize the sound you like. Lots of apps including Vimeo streaming.Glossy screen to my surprise appeared reasonably dark and without interfering glare even in bright sun lit room.The bad:First and major one - absolutely unusable for 3D viewing. Crosstalk is unbearable, totally spoiling 3d immersion. Originally got 3100 glasses. Samsung support told me to get newer, 3300 glasses for this TV. Over hundred bucks later - exactly same issue. I'm convinced that there is no difference, at least for this TV, if 3100 or 3300 glasses are used. For this thing alone this TV does not worth it's price.Second - uniformity. Very bad on black (light spots), and even mid gray has some problems - one dark blob. (I did not notice any problem on bright white). On black both lower corners are bright to almost unbearable interference with picture. Samsung support told me to hold my conclusion till after over 600 hours of use, auto conditioning supposed to take care of it by then. Well, I don't think I will have 600 hours on this TV even after one year and I don't have intention to tolerate it. If screen conditioning required - it should be done at factory before shipment to customer. I call ... on it.Third - dynamic local dimming. Not advertised but it is obvious to me that this model uses local dimming. It is poorly implemented and I see no option to turn it off in any video mode. As it is dynamic - there is many way it appears and spoils the picture. When used for apps - local dimming is disabled.Minor thing - out of the box all picture "enhancement" stuff turned to the max producing unpleasing, pasterized image. Takes some tweaking to get it back to normal. "3D" settings has no explanation what it does (settings -1, and 1) other than it says that it "optimizes 3D". My guess it tweaks glasses sync timing as I can notice very slight crosstalk change, but to me it is absolutely useless.It is very nice 2D TV (except black uniformity), though overpriced for that. In my opinion it should not be sold as 3D. Samsung's customer support quick and polite but absolutely useless.I'm trying replacement, will see if the one I got is just unlucky fluke or if there is some systematic problem with this model. So far Amazon appeared supportive. Will follow up...Here it is: replacement was pretty much identical in every way to original one. So sad, it's a beautiful set. If you really like it for 2D - get D6000 instead, same guts but without 3D and few hundreds cheaper.Amazon service absolutely superb. Great TV - But no blatant advantages over plasmaBy JCLittle background:currently have two Plasmas in the household. I am a big fan of their picture quality, black levels, motion handling, and input lag (PS3 games).Began around three months ago searching for a larger TV, as my 50" plasma just wasn't cutting it for me in terms of size b/c we sit 14' away from the screen. Unfortunately, my built-in entertainment center width was a major constraint. No plasma larger than 50" could fit (the 54" G25 Panasonic was 0.5" too wide!!). I began to look at LEDs as they were built with thinner bezels and could thus squeeze into my entertainment center and still have a diagonal of 55". I was very concerned with a few items when i purchased this TV:1. Picture Quality (potential) Problemsa) Flashlighting - read anywhere on Edge-lit LEDs and this is probably the #1 problem that comes up. Please note that with this TV i do NOT watch in complete darkness. Watching in complete darkness tends to exacerbate any flashlighting or clouding problems you may see in an edge-lit set. As for my set, I can definitely see some flashlighting from the corners on letterbox stuff or very dark scenes. I am looking for it though. If I had not read about flashlighting onine I probably would have never noticed. My wife thinks I am crazy. The flashlighting may go away once I get a chance to calibrate the set (I only tinkered with the settings a little) but I think either way I can live with it (and probably will forget about it in a few months)b) Black Levels - the reason i bought the 6800 instead of the 6500. The 6800 has "Precision Dimming", Samsung's edge-lit workaround to true full array local dimming sets. Did I buy into marketing hype or was the extra money worth the precision dimming? I can't say for sure since I never owned the 6500, but I am happy (but NOT at all wowed) with the black levels of the 6800. I felt my old Plasma black levels were better. 4:3 content or letterbox content sometimes has "glowing" black bars instead of inky blacks. For the most part the black levels are sufficientThe 6800 definitely has better colors and depth to it though. Certain shows look drop dead gorgeous on this TV that i never felt that way with my old TV, most likely due to the color reproduction and brighter display of this LED compared to plasma.2. Input lag for gaming - I am a HEAVY online FPS gamer (PS3). That's all I do on my PS3. COD, Killzone, etc. you name the FPS and I am playing the online multiplayer, and playing it a LOT. The "twitchier" the better. I've never played games on an LCD/LED TV before and have always read that LCDs/LEDs can have terrible input lag compared to Plasmas. I was extremely worried about how my gaming would be on this LED tv. I think I lost countless hours of sleep over this one, with Black Ops and Killzone 3 on the near horizon ;). marvelous!By Ian WrightI received my new tv from Amazon.com last Friday. I've spent a whole weekend enjoying HD glory. My movies look fabulous and my video games are crystal clear with great images and vivid colors. Revenge of the Sith, The Two Towers, Bioshock 2 and Battlefield all look spectacular. Battlefield: Bad Company becomes larger than life on this unit. While the frame rate is at 60, I didn't find this to be a problem when playing fast paced shooters. I'm not sure that the $800 for another similar Samsung unit with a higher refresh would have been worth it. The tv is easy to mount on the free stand that comes with the unit. The 1.25" depth is a true wonder. The sound is excellent, but I live in an apartment in a major city.The menus are nice, everything is easy to find and the ports in the back are a cinch to use when connecting inputs/outputs. After connecting my XBox to my Windows Media Center, I was able to view some really stunning HD movies over the network. I was truly amazed at the quality of the images. The models I'd seen in Best Buy and other stores were nice, but I'm glad I waited to get one of the new 2010 models. I'm looking forward to getting a PS3 and using it as a Blu Ray player for movies & documentaries.Amazon offered a great price on this and the shipping/delivery went very smoothly. Nothing but praises for Samsung and Amazon.com!Gamers should be prepared to fork out extra money for a good HDMI cable. BrandtSHORT AND SWEET:If you aren't already sitting on a 1080p HDTV or are looking for the affordable angle into the upcoming 3D ready technology GO FOR IT!EDIT:I can't say enough good things about this television. It has been well worth the investment even without using its 3D capabilities yet.Into:I hadn't taken the plunge into HDTV's yet and was still watching on a 32" JVC tube television. I'll be a dork and admit that after seeing Avatar in 3D and with an upcoming birthday, I started researching the 3D ready televisions. Early reviews of the Samsung line were positive and only critical on the high end screens at an A/V level I won't be concerned with as an HDTV neophyte. Upon seeing Samsung's line up I had noticed the LN46C750 was the only non LED or Plasma offering, making it pretty much the most affordable 3D ready television out there. The info I found said the C750 should be like the B750 that CNET thought was quite good. Once the product showed up at Amazon, I went to big box store to check similar LCD's as well as try the 3D display they had setup. Being impressed by both I bought the LN46C750 the next day. I got the tv for less (killer deal) than it's going for now, but this price is still only about $3-400 more than a straight LCD of equivalent statistics.Delivery & Setup:The television came a few days earlier than expected! Box was undamaged and everything was in order when I pulled the set out. Having looked at LED LCD televisions in person that are sub 1" deep, I still find this television looks beautiful even with its portly (kidding) 3.2" depth. I have it set up on it's cool looking "X" stand on the old televisions garbage entertainment center (to be remedied in the future.) Directions are straight forward, I plugged in my cable, power source, and a ethernet cord--the WIS09ABGN wireless LAN adapter came later. Auto setup found all of my channels, set the time on the TV and updated the pre-installed apps.Picture:I mostly have left the picture settings alone, other than obviously picking home use over store display. Standard def. Cable doesn't look great, but I was expecting that as I've upped my PC monitor before and gone through the same issues. The free over air/cable HD channels are looking NICE! Unfortunately I do not have a Blu-ray player yet, and so I can't test really high end content. What I can say is I have one of the cheapest Target-special DVD players out there and STILL standard DVD's are looking great. SO good in fact that on some I have to turn down/off the Auto Motion Plus settings to avoid that re-shot-old-movie-with-high-end-home-video-camera look. The "mexican soap opera" look if you will. Couple of reasons for this is due to the fact that since not many people knew about the 8 series (more importantly this 8500 set), they were losing money off of something no one was buying. Another reason, is because they are now putting the majority of their 'eggs in 1 basket'. That 'Basket' being the new 3D Technology. Which leads me to believe that the next line of Samsungs are NOT going to have as much focus & emphasis on picture quality such as this 8500 HDTV, but more focus & emphasis on the 3D Technology. One supporting fact: Samsung has yet to deny the possibility that NONE of the 2010 models will have Local Dimming - which is one of the reasons why this 8500 set is (and still is) the best LED/LCD on the market today. Instead all of the new 2010 models will go back to Edge-Lit LED backlighting, which is a step backwards. - My advice? We all know this new 3D Technology is not going to be the best the 1st time around and within a year or 2 years that 'new' 3D HDTV will then become outdated. This 8500 set is the Best LCD/LED HDTV out there and through the trail and errors of the new 3D technology, this 8500 will still be an HDTV to reckon with. Did not meet expectationsBy Amazon shopperI've been purchasing LCD televisions for many years. I have an old Sharp LC65D93U that I set up side by side for evaluation purposes. I also have a Panasonic VT25 unit that I used for comparison.A major benefit of LCD over PLASMA has always been the lack of reflections arising from incident lighting. This is my biggest beef with the Samsung, it is no better than PLASMA in this regard. The reflections on this screen are severe.The off angle viewing has improved from older LCD generations, but it is still poor. With a careful eye even at normal viewing distances on the large 65 inch screen, you can see these effects as you sway side to side.Defects:This is my second UN65C8000, the first had extremely bad "flash lighting" effects right out of the box. The replacement had very little. There exists on my set a small amount of spot lighting on the bottom mid-section of the screen which only becomes noticeable when watching in a completely dark room environment (visible in the black bar on the bottom when watching a widescreen movie). A more significant defect is with something I've seen on the biggest screen sizes throughout time, banding. It looks like someone took a dirty rag and swiped it across the screen top to bottom. As the camera pans quickly left-right, it becomes quite noticeable especially with certain color and texture backgrounds. Ignorance can be bliss, many people don't notice this until pointed out and I guess their superior brains just filter the defect out ... wish I weren't so caveman-like. Eventually this defect gets worked out as the technology matures, but I'm not giving Samsung a break on this. The banding I saw is more pronounced than it is on my past generation Sharp LCD. And as usual Plasma's don't seem to have any of this.Some major plusses. In side by side comparisons to a known reference (color filters etc), the Samsung's colors are much closer to true than those on my Sharp. And the contrast is significantly improved (certain shades of grey show on the Samsung were-as the Sharp can't distinguish). The power consumption, which varies a lot depending on the video content and the settings, is around 145 watts for the Samsung, a major decrease over my Sharp which is reading 380 watts for the same content. All the pixels are good, not one out that I could find. Finally, the set weighs very little and is amazingly thin. It's ideal for wall mounting, I suspect the feint spot lighting near the bottom is caused by pressure of the stand mounts on the panel. Thoughts on 3D and other special video processing options:By default, the set is configured for overly bright levels and cool un-natural tones along with a feature called "auto motion plus" enabled. The result is a very fake looking picture that few would want to stick with. I went to an electronics store and viewed both 60 and 120 hz side by side and could not tell the difference- the 60 hz is plenty fast for me.Many people complained about the sound quality of last year's model. This is far better the one I purchased 2 years ago. The picture is outstanding, almost too good. Some people who watch it with me say it looks too real and not like a TV and shows detail you were not meant to see. I do not consider that a negative. The SMART TV variety of options including Samsung Apps are fairly good and extensive but sadly do not include Amazon which tempted me to knock the rating down to 4 stars. The set up and use of the apps and other features is not as intuitive as it could be and that probably does knock the rating down to 4 and half stars. Many of the Apps like with apple ipod you have to purchase, others claim to be free but after you connect you have to pay a fee.The caveat being I have yet to connect a 3-D source or buy the glasses. So I can not review that aspect of the TV. The picture in 2-D is very 3-D as you truly get the illusion of depth because of the picture quality and you do not have to mess with glasses. I will soon take the 3-D plunge and hopefully amend this review to include that aspect.But if you want a great picture in your bedroom, it is bright with tons of contrast and exceptionally sharp. It is quite glossy and those with light source issues may consider a less reflective TV to avoid reflected light on the screen.I purchased this just after it came out and the price dropped today. I have every confidence that Amazon who always has treated me better than any other retailer will live up to the price reduction guarantee. Let me state that this is the first HDTV we have ever owned. This is a replacement for a functioning 25" Zenith color console with a rotary dial (only has a flat UHF and VHF input) that we purchased new 25 plus years ago. We have basic cable (Time Warner) that was hooked up to the old TV through a VHS and DVD (separate) player. We started researching HDTV's last year. After information overload from all of the various manufactures as to why they were better we settled on the Samsung brand just to start narrowing it down. After that we took up the Plasma vs. LCD. We settled on the LCD and then quickly narrowed it down to the 46" model based upon our living room layout. We have three interior and one exterior wall, with the exterior wall facing east and is all glass. We have a fireplace at the end of the room and that is where the TV has always set. After all of that was done we were ready to pull the trigger and purchase the LN46A650 but waited for a while ($$). By the time we were ready to purchase, Samsung had just released the 850, 860, and 950. Jump back into research to see what the differences were. Well thin is what we needed to help with the room arrangement so we quickly changed to the 850 (ToC red) / 860 (ToC blue) model. We purchased the 850 on Cyber Monday. It arrived the following Monday. 1. CEVA Logistics, Just after placing my order I received a confirmation from Amazon with the tracking #. Goggled CEVA, placed the tracking # in the main web page to locate the TV and there it was, at the warehouse outside of Harrisburg Pa. I checked it several times that week and followed it through their system. I received a phone call from the local agent on Friday who setup a delivery time on Monday (7 days after the order) for a delivery between 9 and 1. They arrived at about 10:00 with a small urban type delivery truck. The two deliverymen were college aged and friendly. They met me at the door and we inspected the package together. They advised me before stepping into the house that they were only to unpack and check that it powered on. They did just that and there were no issues. I tried to tip them but they politely refused and went on their way. I am mentioning this here as some reviews were all over the place on them. 2. The TV, It was easy to hook up. Screwed in the cable to the back and turned it on. It went through a couple of quick menus and then it was searching for channels. It even tells you on the screen where it is in the process. I wonder if he is one of the third party sellers....Anyway, what I would like to add about this particular tv in regards to hz: LCD televisions that are 60Hz are generally easy on the eyes with no noticeable imperfections until there is fast action or camera panning. A 60Hz television will begin to look jumpy, an effect known as "Judder". So, please take this into consideration when spending so much money on a tv. 120hz seems to be minimum standard anymore and some are 240hz.Edit: Someone else commented that TV stations broadcast in 60hz. That is your incoming signal, but your television generates 120hz for the image it displays if you have a 120hz set. Many of the new sets are at 240hz making a 60hz set seem rather archaic. Another good thing to look for is the contrast. This is where you will notice a lot of difference in the quality of the picture. Plasma is generally the best for contrast but you can't go wrong with LCD or LED either. The only LCD I saw that may be better is the Sony but it is my personal feeling that you are just paying for the name. I was also told that the screen on the Samsung and the Sony are made by the same manufacturer so the only difference is asthetics and extra features. The Sony however comes with a stiff price increase.I have a very bright room and I am energy concious so a plasma was not a good option for me since they catch a lot of glare and use more power. The picture quality you get out of a plasma in the right setting still is superior to LCD but only in certain instances. The Samsung LCD picture is awesome 90% of the time, where it falls short is in very dark scenes. There is a problem with what I found from other blog sites and reviews (based on the Sony with the same screen) of "light leaking". In very dark scenes the picture is sometimes not totally black you can see what appear to be shadows or pixel movements. Now most people don't even notice it but if you're a perfectionist geek like me it is an annoyance. However, for me the LCD is still the better choice than plasma and I would not change my decision the picture quality is excellent most of the time so it is not a big deal. Of all the LCD's that I have seen this one along with the Sony have the best picture quality hands down. Although, Sharp's new box is getting close. Don't be fooled by low end manufactured products claiming to be as good. Carefully, look at the specs and the picture quality particuarly during fast moving scenes where you may catch bluring.I have not had the opportunity to see how the 1080p resolution looks yet (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) but I'm sure it is as breath-taking as HD.I bought this TV recently after years of watching, reading and waiting for pricing to get to a point where I thought it would be the right time. When I first saw some reviews on Cnet I was a bit concerned, even though they listed the 40B7000 as their top choice they stated some cons regarding the viewing angle and some issues they noticed with the LED's being visible sometimes. This made me decide that I would view the screens in person as opposed to just purchasing on Amazon as I intended to do and really didn't think I needed to see in person. Never the less I'm glad I did because any fear I had was immediately irrelevant once I saw the set in person. Needless to say I saw none of the issues mentioned on Cnet and the set blew me away that I couldn't wait any longer and purchased right then! I have had the set for about 2 weeks and I kick myself every time I turn it on, everything looks just AMAZING!! It is the most beautiful TV I have ever seen. The TV has so many good features (especially design) that are too many to list, thus, I will focus on the two things I have encountered that I know someone else might have experienced or will experience and are rather disappointing...but don't lose your hopes just yet!1) Backlight bleeding - My TV came set up for 'store' usage mode, instead for 'home', which increases the bleeding drastically.Changing to 'home' is quite challenging so you have to read the manual. After I changed the usage mode to 'home', it decreased considerably but was still noticeable. I visited some forums, websites, and some even advised to put pressure on the screen with my fingers (until I see the screen changing colors), etc, but nothing seemed to work.I decided to contact Samsung support and they advised me to change PICTURE MODE to 'STANDARD' and adjust the 'BACKLIGHT' to the value of '7'. The support guy/girl mentioned to leave this setting on for 3 weeks. After the three weeks, I should be able to change to any picture mode and to any value for the backlight. Finally, it was mentioned that if I did not see any changes, that a service ticket needs to be placed at this link (you will need to register your TV with Samsung): [...]I made the change today 4/15/2011 so I will wright another review within 3 weeks to let you know the end results.2) Sound stops working - I only have a PS3 and a DirecTV satellite box connected to the TV via HDMI cables (hight speed and 3D capable). I have noticed the TV produces no sound for like 1 second and then gradually comes back at a lower volume until it reaches the original volume. I have also noticed it only happens when the picture is set to 'STANDARD' and have only noticed it when the source is the DirecTV box. I do not run the PS3 on standard mode so I can't compare, but I will do so and pay attention to the results. In summary, I have to wait for the 3 weeks picture test, and also test the sound using the PS3 source on standard mode. The new ones are out now....By H. SachanHere's a feedback which I left for HLP model TVs also. HLNs are older thatn HLP and the feedback below compares HLP/HLN/HLM. It does not has the nunmber of input/output (composite/component etc) since that can easily be found on the product description page. This reviews pretty much applies to all the DLP level TVs from Samsung. I researched for around more than couple of months before finally buying this one. Samsung initially started with HLM/HLN series DLP models which were using HD2 chip from Texas Instruments and the contrast ratio was 1000:1. This performed very well in reviews, quality and black level as compared to Sony LCD rear projection. The next series is the latest on which is HLP xx63 series where xx is the size in diagonal (HLP 4663, HLP 5063). The improvements in this are 7 segment color wheel instead of 6-segment, which gives better color. This also uses 3rd generation chip HD3 which has contrast ratio of 1500:1. The bulb are also better in this one since there were some problems in the earlier version of the TV. This is a great TV, light weight as compared to some other and plasmas. The next series which is out only in 2 models is HLP 5085 and HLP5685. These are also 7-segment color wheel but they have HD2+ chip. This is 4th generation chip and is better than HD3. Its contrast ratio is 2500:1 which should mean better black levels. These are the ones with pedestal which looks cool in the picture but is kinda bulky looking in the store. I'm not sure why this model is not out in 46 inches, may be it doesn't make difference in smaller sizes. Next, 5th generation chip is going to be xHD3 and should give around 4500:1 contrast ratio. Overall, DLPs are better since they have better contrast than plasmas and weigh less. They also don't have a burn-in issue like plasmas. HLP series is the best one till now and Samsung is the oldest player in this. Other manufacturers are also catching up, so this should drive the price down further. good for consumers. Hope this helps and good luck shopping. --------Some more feedback on the picture and input modes after two weeks into the purchase:The contrast ratio of HLN/HLP series are good provided you are watching the TV at the same height. If you watch from slightly above/below or left/right, then you'll see it slightly less bright. Just like a laptop screen behaves, maye slightly better. It has following picture modes:- 4:3 standard definition (SD) cable programming. puts black bars on the side of the picture if you watch it in this mode.- wide mode (16:9). if you watch SD tv on this mode, it'll stretch the picture- panorama mode. stretches only the outside portion of the picture making center of the picture in the correct proporting (aspect ratio) but the sides bit distorted- zoom1/zoom2: they just soom in from the center with different stretching methods. Component inputs (in SD and HD) aspect ratios only have normal and wide options. Great LED-LCD, excellent 2D picture, works great with PCBy ChrisDisclaimer: I actually purchased the UN46C6900 which is the exact same television with a different colored bezel, however all here applies to the 6800 as well.After doing a great deal of research online and in the shops, this TV really seemed to make a lot of sense in terms of price vs. performance, and after my purchase I have to say I certainly agree. I am coming from a higher end 32" Samsung LCD from about 3 years ago, and have spent time with friends and their various Samsung, Toshiba, Sony LCDs and Panasonic plasmas. Hopefully this review will help you make a decision and also provide some insight into using it for various input sources, particularly with a PC.The first question you need to ask yourself is if you want 3D... if you're like me, you'll find the added cost probably isn't worth it, particularly if you already have a Blu-ray player (given that you can get a better deal on 3D glasses with a Samsung Blu-ray bundle). For me it would have cost around $400-500 more to go 3D (for the added set cost of the UN46C8000 and two pair of glasses), and after seeing it in person, 3D will definitely get a lot better in the years ahead. Outside of the performance and illusion (which was pretty cool from my in-store demos), the two problems for me in particular were that the basic and advanced rechargeable glasses weren't comfortable with my prescription glasses, and the basic glasses use a non-rechargeable watch/coin style battery which sounds like a pain to deal with. That said I am definitely interested in 3D (particularly for games), in a few years I will likely upgrade looking closely at 3D sets to see if the quality and ergonomics have improved.So anyway, actually on the topic of this tv! The main reason I chose this particular set was because I was interested in 120 or 240hz LED-LCD (mainly due to decreased energy consumption), and also some type of smart backlight technology to get better blacks. I've also had good success with Samsung sets, and they seem to offer the most models compared to Sony or Toshiba, so I could really dial in what features I wanted (or didn't want). So in terms of features, because many edgelit LED sets historically have been pretty horrible in terms of light uniformity, particularly in dark scenes, I was initially interested in the local dimming backlit LED sets such as the UN46B8500. Desire to save some expense and wanting to get a 2010 model year set (improved firmware considerations), I settled on this particular version given it's "precision dimming" functionality. Of course the challenge here is that the 6800/6900 set is edgelit, so while the same trickery in the B8500 was going to be impossible (turning off light directly behind the LCD), it pulls off a similar effect pretty admirably with a thinner profile and lot less cost. How this works is, first imagine a series of LEDs placed around the entire perimeter of the screen (picture a movie-star dressing room mirror with bulb lights all around it). Since plasmas have a 600 Hz refresh rate compared to 240HZ for the best LED/LCDs, we decided to go back to plasma.I checked out some reviews and narrowed it down to about 10 TVs in the 60-65" range and went to BB to look at them. They had the PN58C550 on display and it looked fantastic. I asked two different salesman what they thought of it. One said Samsung made the best plasmas and that plasmas offered the most realistic color. A different salesman said he just bought the PN63C550 and loved it. I asked him why and he said he'd been in the business for 17 years and he thought this was the best TV out there for the price. I checked Consumer Reports and they rate the PN63C550 (along with the LG Infinia 60PK950) as the #1 TV of all plasmas and LED/LCDs with a score of 81. With that, we ordered it on a Fri and it was delivered the following Wed. The CEVA delivery was as promised. The box is huge as another reviewer said.The picture is stunning right out of the box with no blurring during sports. The picture with a blu-ray player is equally impressive. I tried about 5 different blu-ray movies through it and can't see any difference between this TV and our '08 LCD with blu-ray (which is a good thing). After watching about 8 hours of football on Sunday on this TV, it was barely warm on the front and at the vents in back...I would estimate 90 degrees. There is no buzzing at all on this TV, even with the volume muted and standing inches away from it. Standard def picture seems about the same as other HDTVs, nothing special.Overall, I highly recommend this TV and would buy it again. As I got down to the final days, I began doing some more research and found that the Samsung's were rated fairly high for performance. Wow, what a difference! With the Westinghouse I figured that I was going to have to settle for a so-so analog off-air picture on any lcd but boy, was I wrong. I do like itBy Dan CroitoruI was hesitant at first to buy a product without any reviews but I really needed a tv so there it goes.....First one was delivered damaged but i got a replacement in about four days.Tv looks good on or off.I think it has really nice colors and after messing with it for a day or so I got it where I wanted it.I think the colors look better than on an LCD.Being a plasma I was a little worried about the screen letting out some heat and consequently the energy consumption but I was impressed once I hooked it up to a kill-a watt monitor.I Normal mode (after calibration) it takes between 130W to about 170W which I think it's impressive for a 58 inch plasma.Also it emanates just about as much heat as a new lcd which is very little.I hooked it up to my router and now I can stream movies and pics to it from my laptop wirelessly(wired from the tv to the router but wireless from the router to my laptop).I would buy again.It does buzz a little but I can't tell unless I sit a couple of feet from it.See all 64 customer reviews... »» Read more about Samsung PN58C550 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Black).

Best LCD tv available today!By BearcatTo clarify I own this tv and am not just basing this review on time spent in a store browsing. This tv has been hard to come by and the only place I could find that had it in stock was my local Best Buy with a Magnolia section.Design: Samsung is noted for their sleek design and this tv is no exception. Samsung says it has a charcoal touch of color but I really didn't notice any color in the bezel. It is black and goes to clear at the outer edge. It sits on a metal stand with a clear neck holding the tv. At the bottom middle of the tv below where it says Samsung is a blue light which can be turned off. I noticed the light flickers ever so slightly when a command is sent from the remote you are using. The tv is VERY slim. Only 1.6" at it's fattest point. This is amazing considering this tv is a fully backlit LED unit with local dimming. Truly amazing and a design that will have your friends jealous.Picture Quality: This is the best looking LCD tv made today. I have viewed many other LCD tv's including the Sony XBR8 and the Samsung A950 from last year and this one is the best looking I have seen. From a picture quality perspective the XBR8 is closest but not quite up to par with the 8500. Realistically if you had either of these sets in your house they would look spectacular. The blacks on the 8500 are so dark it approaches the level of blacks in the best Plasma tv's. In a dark room I could not tell where the tv screen ended and the bezel began because the screen was so dark. The colors are superb and can be tweaked any number of ways to your liking. I prefer the "Natural" mode for everyday use and the "Movie" mode for watching blu-ray movies. The 240hz refresh is nice but the best thing is that you can independantly control Blue and Judder settings. Cranking up the 240hz tends to produce what some call the "soap opera" effect but this can easily be eliminated by tweaking. There is also a Game mode which I use when gaming on my PS3. One interesting thing I found out was that the Movie mode using the Warm 2 setting is pretty much spot on from a calibration perspective right out of the box. I say that because I have a Spears & Munsil calibration blu-ray disc and when I ran the tv through the calibration process using Movie mode on Warm 2 I literally only had to tweak one setting by one or two points. I could see many people just flipping back and forth between Natural and Movie modes, depending on what they are watching, and not bothering to calibrate the tv as it looks great pretty much out of the box.I also wanted to mention that standard def looks good on this tv. Not interested in 3D?, Great picture & valueBy OLDKOZHad my PN58C6400 (same as the C6500) for 3 weeks now. Intially ordered a 2009 model from Amazon/Modia but it was out of stock and they upgraded to this 2010 model, nice. Order arrived couple days early, opened & inspected the unit before signing for it (highly recommended)and had no damage. This was by far the biggest ticket item I'd web purchased but I was happy with the transaction and remain so. Had not planned on wall mounting, but this 2010 unit is so thin (1.4") that now I'm thinking about it. Have noticed NO buzzing or any other unsusal noises. I did not "burn in" the screen with test slides like some techies like to do (think it unnessary). I've just been sure initially to watch a variety of material, and always in wide-screen even if it means having to stretch the pciture to fit for 4:3 material. Don't know what the internal speakers sound like and don't care as I haven't used anything in my main room but the surround system for 10 years now. Suggest using direct high quality digital audio connections directly from sources to your Home theater system, not HDMI to the TV then back, which can limit return audio to only 2 channel.As for viewing sources and setup, I don't do any Gaming and I've yet to try any of the Internet features as my DSL sppeed needs to be upgraded to at least 3.5 mghz. Watch mainly DISH HD programs and numerous Blu-ray movies. Got on AVS Forum website for this Samsung model family and got some excellent setting recommendations which I use for my two input sources. Use the "Movie" mode to have access to all adjustments, "Standard" has some disabled, and "Relaxed" and "Dynamic" even more are greyed out. (If you initally find the Dynamic mode good, you'll quickly tire of it as it gets fatiguing to the eyes.) I had initially researched buying a LCD-LED unit but am very happy with this plasma. Picture quality is outstanding and still promotes the "wow" factor. The picture quality remains excellent from any angle and light relections don't seem to bother the picture nor are they visible. I've had no Image Retention problems (there are a couple of features built-in to prevent them) More importantly I've seen NO motion artifacts which are common on LCD TVs. If you have no interest right now in 3D (I don't) and are looking for a great picture with deep blacks, & accurate color and video processing, this represents an excellent value. Yeah it puts out a little heat, give it 4" if clearance on each side for proper ventilation. Very pretty picture, some of the time.By Andy DopieralskiThe UN46B8000 is a very good display if space is an issue. However, it is not exactly what I was expecting. The store display I had seen was in open light and the display was connected to a Samsung BluRay player. This appears to be the key, as the display has some proprietary processing enabled for Samsung players. The 240Hz conversion gave the picture an odd life-like quality and I really liked it for CGI films. I figured that would translate well to games and I was tired of the poor black performance on my Aquos, so I picked up the set. A couple of things - first, even though this is touted as LED technology keep in mind that's only for the backlight. The display tech is still LCD. You're not getting per-pixel illumination. You're getting edge-mounted backlighting supplied by LEDs. Second, the set is very laggy. The video has about a 150ms lag when all of the upscaling is turned off and 'game mode' is enabled to reduce lag. In full processing mode (240Hz, dynamic contrast, etc) the lag is over 500ms. If you don't have a Samsung DVD player(which seems to correct it), this translates to noticable lag in video behind the audio track. Extremely annoying. And half a second makes playing games with any optimizations completely worthless. Lastly, the backlighting is blotchy in pure black situations with low ambient lighting. You don't notice it much in normal store/room lighting, but when you turn out the lights the backlight produces soft 'clouds' of grey shift through a solid black field. There are some hot spots around the edge as well, where a small amount of light bleed occurs. The display has a decent number of inputs, especially considering its size. Four HDMI, a component, and a VGA. The lack of a dedicated DVI was surprising, but the first HDMI port doubles as a DVI with a converter (all ports will work with HDPC compliant DVI outputs, but only the first port can handle a standard DVI-I/DVI-D signal from a non-HDPC source). A word about signal range - this display is very strict when it comes to valid source. A receiver that gave me perfect performance at 1080p with my Aquos produces an invalid signal error with this display. A cheaper HDMI cable I was using for my PS3 produced nothing but static on the screen. I had to go get an official PS3 cable to get a correct 1080p display. My ZuneHD dock will NOT display at 720p, regardless of what I've tried. It works fine on other displays, but the Samsung won't sync the signal. Very frustrating.The extra features of the set may appeal to some, but I have no need for a terribly slow media streming service built into my set. Any dedicated media streaming station or game console is going to outperform the in-set features for DivX playback. The widgets were just a bad idea. I have a 50Mbps internet connection and they still take forever to load. They aren't really useful and 'typing' with the remote is an exercise in self loathing. Aesthetically, the set is incredible. From the quality remote to the stand this television is the set for you. After it was programmed and user preferences were set, the first HD channel was a golf tournament on Golf Channel HD. Truely breath taking!!! My other HD sets are Plasma ranging from 58 to 32 inches. This is the first LED television I have owned. Being one inch thick, weighing in at 55 lbs it was very easy to handle. The picture quality on non 3D broadcast makes it look like a modified 3D. I have never seen anything like it. My wife who could not care the least about technology, was very impressed with the picture quality.Amazon made the purchasing experience painless with no sales tax and inside delivery. The delivery staff unbox your television, plug it in to make sure it works and are friendly to boot. Last but not least, you will be very impressed. I have watched my first 3D movie with the glasses and everything worked perfectly. 3D makes movie watching a whole different experience. Only one major problem...Other than the 3D movie that came with the free Samsung glasses, there are no other choices to purchase. 3D Blu-ray technology has not caught up with the 3D televisions. ESPN 3D debuts in June on Directv. The All Star game will be telecast in 3D and the College Football National Championship game will be in 3D. The television had software update available at the Samsung website. It was easy to update. The television was manufactured on March 30, 2010 and the software upgrade was available on April 15. Great TV, bad quality control from SamsungBy John GreyLet me say that this TV is one of the best in the market for the price point. The pros are too many to list and so far has been a great choice as far as features and performance. I'm an early adapter for HDTV in 03 going from a Zenith C32V37 RP CRT (4:3); which unfortunately is getting replaced due to a humming power supply. The B750 can match the black levels of the RP CRT and has no clouding or flashlighting that I was seeing on the A750/A850 sets, which my wife and I almost decided to get. With Amazon's pricepoints coming very close to the discounted price of the previous generation Samsung sets it was a no brainer.Now onto the Cons, I would have given this B750 5 stars if not for the crappy Samsung Quality Control. I received my TV out-of-the-box with a remote that had 5 dead/non-working buttons= mute, up arrow, play, red options button and "1". Also, after 2 days of setting up the TV and getting all our inputs connected using almost all of them (analog & digital); yes even both USB ports, the HDMI inputs 1-3 stopped working properly. Now, those inputs will only take the signal from the HDMI 4. EG: If I select HDMI 1-3 and have a source such as Bluray running on the HDMI 4 (side-port) it will display that source signal. Talk about disappointing QC. After a few calls to Amazon and Samsung; I will be getting a new remote and have Samsung's local service technician out to fix the HDMI input problem. I can't believe these QC issues out-of-the-box are occuring for such as middle-tier to higher end line of prodcut; very poor testing on Samsung's part.Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance of the B750 but very disappointed with their QC process which can be greatly improved. Very Impressive. Samsung showing style and performance.By J. J. INYoonFirst off, I have had an 40" Samsung for 3 years and have been very pleased with it. It has a matte screen so that is what I was looking for. I really didn't want any glare so I actually was looking at LG's since they are one of few companies that make 50"+ lcds with matte screens. CNET reviewed the LG's with high marks as well so I was pretty much dead set on an LG. So I went to Fry's, Bestbuy, HHgregg, and local TV shop just checking out the products. I definitely liked the pictures of the LG's. The colors are on par with the Samsungs and the washout from off angles is also better. But I couldn't get over the simple fact that the Samsungs just looked better. Every store I went to I was like yeah there's glare, but when the screen is fully lit you don't really see it, plus you know we all were used to CRT glass screens for years. The LG technically had deeper blacks, but in reality the matte refraction light made the screen seem more grayish and the glossy screens appeared to have deeper blacks due to clarity. Also, the clarity of the images in the Samsungs was noticeably better. Just one of those things you just see and say yeah that's better. For a final look, I brought my wife for her opinion and she point right to the Samsung as the better picture.So as a matte finish fan and all the technical abilities of the LG's I had to go with the Samsung. Beyond the amazing picture the style is so much better. So thin, lighter, and the UN55c6500 has a great thin border, actually charcoal matte, with a nice clear trim. Looks so clean. I've read where some people have said that the picture is so good that it almost looks 3d. I have to agree, playing some video games and bluray, the picture is so good it does almost look 3d. I also got the wireless dongle (free with purchase) and it works quite easily. No issue thus far.There definitely are reflections, but glare isn't really too bad. I also did see the rainbow effect from my ceiling lights, but only if in direct view. The motion plus still makes everything look soap opera, but being able to turn it down helps a lot. Beautiful television, great picture, poor sound, menus and limmitationsBy Jeff GatesPros:1- amazing size to performance ratio. This TV is incredibly thin. You will have to see it to believe it. At just over an inch thick (not to mention 55" from corner to corner), this television boasts some of the best stats available, compared to any other brands/models out there.2-LED back lighting. This feature is what initially caught my eye. When I first saw it I noticed immediately how incredibly deep the blacks were. This boost in depth of the color plate seems to permeate the entire color spectrum, allowing for deeper, more remarkable fullness when viewing all forms content.3- base statistics. The contrast ratio (although I have read many conflicting, reports, including the manufactures own specification information, which makes it difficult to place an exact quantitative value), 120hz, 1080p, 4 millisecond response time, USB x2 connections, LAN access, ect... They are all there. This television has the capabilities to seamlessly bind your computer or local area network and your home theater into a truly coherent "media center" provided you have the gumption.4- "Xbrite" like display. I call it this for lack of a better option. The screen itself of this LCD is not matted like many of its predecessors, it is glossy resembling a plasma TV or some of its smaller LCD PC monitor cousins, which allows it a brighter, fuller color clarity. This could be considered as "bothersome" by some because it allows for more apparent reflections of light, casting it back into the viewers eye, but the shear intensity of light emitted by this TV puts this claim to rest. Cons:1- Menus. After spending multiple hours removing my previous television, measuring and cutting holes in walls, fuddling with cables, and vacuuming dust bunnies and drywall dust, I found my self at the heart of my disappointment with this TV. Navigating the menu system. Don't get me wrong, it is not difficult, but it is entirely cumbersome. To start off a simple task like switching sources is made time consuming and attracts attention because you have to hit a minimum of 3 buttons on the remote to switch to your closest input. This may seem like someone complaining that you have to turn the faucet on to fill a glass of water but just play with it for a bit and you will see what I am talking about. The menus themselves are all animated and take a moment to load, which adds to the frustration when trying to navigate through them, and when you get to the input you want you have to manually exit the menu by pressing the "enter" or "return" button on the remote. This problem could have been easily alleviated by having shortcut buttons to the individual inputs on the remote, like most other manufactures offer.2-Sound. The sound quality is greatly deteriorated by the fact that the speakers on this model face the opposite direction of the screen. Reverberation off a wall is not an adequate substitution for direct focus. TV died after 5 months - can not turn on at allBy BENJCPI bought this TV (Samsung UN55C8000) in Oct. 2010, but it only last for less than 6 months. I called Samsung for service, and they assigned me a repair ticket with a Alpha DTV service contractor. The schedule was 9-12, technician came to my house at 12:45 (only after I called to remind them), and he dose not even know what need to service (wasting all of my time on the phone talking to them to analyze the problem), and then he can not fix the problem (I have to reschedule for a second appointment). He claimed that this type of TV can only last a few months if you mount it on the wall, which I did. What is the point of buying a thin TV and can not mount it on the wall??? Glossy and reflectionsBy D. DerenzoI've had the TV for a little over a month. The screen is extremely glossy, reflective and has rainbows. (See pics). Black levels are decent, but a little muddy when in a darkened room. I've messed around with most of the settings and just can't get the blacks to show good detail. There is a very tiny flashlight effect in the two lower corners, but barely noticeable. Colors are good, but inconsistent when watching cable so it's probably not the TV's fault. I see occasional lip sync issues, but again I've only seen this watching cable and it's not all the time, so I don't think it's the TV. Off angle picture definitely degrades.During the day, or with any lights on, the TV is barely watchable due to reflections. I get rainbows if a light is on and faces the TV. The only time I get good viewing is at night with almost all the lights off. If you have any lights on they have to be very low and not face the TV. It's not just the screen that's glossy, its also the frame. It seems like Samsung designs TVs that look better when they are turned off than when viewing. Samsung used to claim on its website for 2010 models that the TV had a special coating that "virtually eliminates glare and reflections". This is a total lie and false advertising. I wonder if they were afraid of getting sued because it seems they have removed it.I turned the Auto motion plus off because some shows would "jerk" like it was skipping frames. This feature is also false advertising. I haven't seen any advantage to having this turned on and I have viewed sports, movies, concerts, blu-rays, etc. There is no headphone jack at all. If you want to use headphones there is a 3.5mm line out, but you will not be able to adjust the volume. I had to hook up a stereo receiver to the TV just to be able to use headphones. The one area this TV excels in my opinion in that there is almost zero motion blur which I am sensitive to.I compared all the 55 inch models over the past 3 years (expect Vizio TruLED. Couldn't find one anywhere) and was never happy with any of them. Plasmas are too hot, burn in, etc. LED inconsistent backlight, expensive. Strange bezels (TOC red?). The picture on this TV is 99% as good as the Samsung LEDs. Who cares about thinness? I don't look at it from the side. So why didn't I return it? I just can't find anything I like. All Samsung 55 inchers are glossy now. I looked at non glossy Sony and LG. I don't like the Sony bezel and I see more grain/motion blur on Sony's than Samsung. LGs look nice, but the picture doesn't seem to pop, black levels look worse and I see a little more motion blur than Samsungs. The LG 8500 model has the glossy screen as does the new high end Sonys. However over 95% of the LED LCD TVs on the market today use cheap LED edge lighting.This TV puts even FULL BACK-LIGHT LED TVs to shame. The picture is uniform. The colors are vibrant. Fast action scenes look great. The blacks are black not grey like on an LED LCD. Also, the 5,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio is apparent. I was watching a basket ball game and it was so real I felt like I was at the game. I have not had a chance to use the 3d, as I don't really care about 3d, but I will update my review once I use it.The design is also wonderful. It is only 1 1/4 inches deep and energy efficient. And the Samsung PN50A550S 50-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV shows off the difference brilliantly.First let me say how pleased my experience with ordering the TV on Amazon was. I ordered it on a Monday and it was delivered in 5 days...on a Saturday! Okay, back to the TV. The picture is magnificent. As I said earlier, there is a real difference between 1080i and 1080p. For the past three years I'd been watching on a 1080i maximum Hitachi Plasma, and I thought it really couldn't get much better. But it can. 1080p Blu Ray discs and Playstation 3 games in 1080p are both vividly more defined on the Samsung than on my Hitachi. At this time cable looks about the same, because the highest definition that my cable company (Cablevision) is broadcasting is 1080i. You can set the Samsung's picture to Standard (for a TV placed in a normal environment), Movie (for dark rooms) or Dynamic (for bright rooms). There are (several) other settings that the factory has pre-set and all look great, but you're free to manually adjust just about everything, and on that note....I did have one issue that was really bumming me out. At the very bottom of the face of the TV is the Samsung logo, and directly below that is a relatively oversize, bluish, bright LED light that serves what purpose I have no idea...power indicator...decoration maybe? All that dumb light served to me was distraction; my eyes were drawn to it all the time, especially with the lights lowered while watching a movie. So I called Samsung and asked about it; I was sure that there would be no way to turn it off....but I was wrong! Customer service answered the phone with no wait after navigating briefly through a menu in order to get me to the TV people. The guy put me on hold for a minute and came back to tell me how to turn (what he agreed to be) "the very annoying" light off (the instruction also happens to be on page 67 of the User Manual). So no more annoying light!I have set the TV's speakers to off, so I can't comment on sound. I use a Home Theater receiver in a room set up for Surround; the sound connections for the two devices (an HD Cable Box and a PlayStation 3 (60GB)) that I have go directly to my receiver (I think it's this one Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver).The TV has a USB port (called WISELINK) that lets you play MP3s & view pictures from a USB-flash-drive (which I'll probably never do either of on the TV), but importantly if/when Samsung upgrades the TV's firmware, you can download upgrades to a file on your PC, load the upgrade onto a USB drive and connect the USB drive to the TV to upload the upgrade (all explained in the User Manual).So I am really stoked about my new Samsung PN50A550S 50-inch 1080p TV. Clouding issue on the 52" 850By B. MathewsThe TV was fine for a couple of days but then yesterday night, I started noticing patches of light on various parts of the display that looked like 'clouds'. It was very noticeable in low-light situations which unfortunately I am in most of the time when watching tv. In the day-time, this issue is less noticeable. BUYER BEWARE: PANEL CRACKSBy CT MomThe first 5 weeks with this TV were fantastic, very similar experience to all of the positive reviews - we were more than happy with our purchase. That ended after 5 weeks, we had turned the TV on, went into the kitchen to make lunch, came back to a black screen. When we looked closely, we saw a spider like crack underneath the glass and the TV would not turn back on. The TV had been sitting on its TV stand since amazon had delivered it without being touched or moved. We are currently working with the Samsung warranty to get this problem fixed but I just heard back that they say it is "physical damage" and not covered under warranty. After some research, I found a forum on c-net dedicated to this issue - hundreds of angry consumers with the same exact experience we had - all flat panel samsung tvs that mysteriously cracked under the glass without anyone touching the unit. In most cases it took them weeks/months of complaining and filing to get resolution from Samsung - usually with first a rejection under warranty. It is just not worth the trouble. I am hoping Samsung comes through to fix the issue, but it is not looking good. At this point, I'd recommend avoiding Samsung all together (believe me, I did not think that a couple of months ago - I thought they were top of the line which is why we were willing to spend so much on the tv) - the complaints I found were on Samsung brand tv's specifically. They obviously have a defect issue with the number of complaints I have seen. This is my first ever negative review and I have avoided posting anything until I gave Samsung a chance to fix the issue and after hearing that we incurred the "physical damage" and that is not covered, I have to say something and post this review - it is just not right what they are doing. I Luv this Great TVBy R. McLaughlinI bought this a few weeks ago from the local big box (Amazon didnt offer it for sale yet). Did extensive comparisons with the Panasonic 3d TV but bought this one because it is thinner and I might want to eventually mount on a wall. I did notice that Aliens vs. Monsters does have some halo effect where sometime when something very light is next to something very dark it is like there is a smudge around the item (in the movie it most often occurs with the bleach blonde hair of Susan when she is in front of dark background, or around the moon at the beginning). This really bugged me. However, there is no other 3d source material to watch yet, and you cant even use the panasonic 3d demo as it wont work with the samsung tv, so I cant otherwise comment on this rare effect. It does not occur in 2d to 3d conversion or in 2d ever. The screen has some glare when viewing dark material in daylight, but otherwise the TruBlack does a great job of reducing glare, and 3D glasses reduce glare by 50% as well. I rarely notice glare at all, which is surprising for a plasma. Other than the rare halo artifact (which is not visible on the Panasonic demo, but I havent seen Monsters vs. Aliens on the Panasonic tv) the tv is virtually flawless. Put in a quality blueray source and the picture is a knockout. Try King Kong, or Pirates of Caribean. Wow. I gaurantee you have never seen such a quality picture ever before. Then, as there isnt currrently any significant 3d source material, try the 2d to 3d conversion (not available on the Panasonic). Wow. It does not have quite as much depth as made in 3d, and sometimes the 3d is not absolutely perfect, but it is amazing. I just watch 2d to 3d all the time and cannot figure out how they do it. The only thing that is annoying with the 2d to 3d is when multiple lines of text are on the screen, each line of text will be given a different depth apparently randomly which is a little wierd, especially because usually it should all be in the same plane. People, scenery, sports, playstation games, etc. all look great--it just does a superb job of extrapolating the 2d into 3d. Love Call of Duty in 2d to 3d. It is like you are there.I do think that when viewing in 3d you want to be closer to the tv than you would be ordinarily (and many others feel the same). You will also want a bigger screen than you would ordinarily want for 2d. Otherwise, it is like you are looking through a window at a 3d world. Picture quality in HD and Blu-ray is amazing. SD is perfectly acceptable. The streaming movie internet apps are cool. Inputting text is a bit clunky however. Can't seem to get the facebook to work. Speakers are kinda sucky but you have to expect that on such a thin TV--got to get a home theater set up. There is a bit of light leak at the 4 corners of the TV, but again I think you kind of have to expect this on such a large LED edge lit tv. It can definitely be minimized with adjusting the picture settings. worth more then every penny!!By busy dadI have lived with this tv for only a week now but I would like to say I researched to no end for a tv that is over 60 inches.The other choices were the 65 inch sharp lcd and the 65 inch panny plasma. I have compared this tv to the others with the same feed and similar settings and the samsung wins in my eyes. The colors on this tv are more vibrant then the lg ,kuro, and panny. I would say the panel and stand are a very nice glossy black with the option to swivel to some extent. The tv arrived connected to the stand which made setup very easy. The menu used to change settings is very user friendly as well. I like how you can label each input source this way it is obvious which input works with each device. The BD playback on this tv is excellent. I could go on and on. There is a B590 which inlcudes cinema smooth and a screen which is ultra filter bright plus as opposed to ultra filter bright. You will not notice the difference. BTW, I also saw this tv side by side with last years 63A650 playing same feed using same settings mode. It was not even close in my eyes. Every bit as good as I expectedBy JamieThis review is a little long winded. Skip to the bottom for just the pros and cons. Or, keep reading to waste 10 minutes of your life. Over the last 5 years, I have been using a 58" Panasonic Plasma TV. Not a bad TV, but not the greatest either. It was only 1080i, it got hot pretty fast (which made the room hot and the air condition kick on too often), and the dimensions were weird (I looked at entertainment centers that should fit a 60" TV, but the TV still wouldn't fit.). I felt an upgrade was in order.I'll have to admit, shopping for a TV was pretty fun. A lot of work though. The research was overwhelming at times. Websites upon websites, magazines, books, different people's inputs, salesmen trying to sell you different things depending on which store you went to, etc. I narrowed it down to one of many Sony HDTVs or a Samsung C or D series. After narrowing it down to those 2 brands, it was a little easier. I went to about 4 different Fry's Electronics and 7 different Best Buys to check it out in different situations. After that, it came down to the UN55D8000 (boy, did I memorize those numbers). To make the decision easier, I was looking on Amazon, and to my amazement, they had it for $500 less that everyone else, plus free shipping. Score!With the free shipping, it usually takes a little longer. I would say, from the time the order was placed, until it got to my front door, it took about 1.5 weeks. It came delivered from Home Direct, USA and had no issues with delivery. They were going to set up the TV, but I told them not to, since my entertainment center hadn't come in yet. I opened up the box, put the TV on a soft cloth (our bed's comforter) and installed the stand. Eight screws, piece of cake. I connected the Directv receiver and a PS3. There are a few settings you will set in the beginning when the TV turns on. Takes about 2 minutes, literally. After that, the fun begins! Going from 1080i to 1080p is a huge difference! I had a recording of Chuck on the DVR and it almost looked live. I also watched some regular satellite programming and even the non-HD channels looked amazing. After wiping the drool off the floor, I wanted to check out the 3D part of the TV. I popped in the free copy of Shrek the 3rd in the PS3, put on the glasses and waited to be amazed. Aside from the amazing colors, it looked exactly like 2D! WTH?! Then, I remember reading somewhere that the PS3 does indeed play 3D movies, BUT with an upgrade. I never knew a TV could look this goodBy ScottypiperMy wife and I had a 62" DLP TV for years. It was a nice 1080i HD set but we hated replacing the bulb every 18 months or so and every time we did, we ran into problems (wrong bulb, housing broke, etc.) It was time for a new TV.We went to our local electronics store and started looking at all the TV types (LCD, Plasma, DLP, LED). We really didn't want to go with DLP again and LED TVs are just ridiculously priced so it came down to LCD and Plasma. They had 1 of each sitting side by side for comparison. The plasma and LCD both looked nice, but the color on the Samsung plasma sold us. I did some research first and found that both LCD and Plasma TVs are routed at 100,000 hours. I had heard some bad things about plasma TVs but all those things were restricted to the first generation plasmas. The new ones last longer, don't burn images in the screen, and don't fade over time. You get the best picture as long as the TV lasts.So we bought the Samsung C590 63" Plasma. We didn't really want 3D for the extra price so we chose this one. Here are some key features.Sound: While nothing really beats a sound system, the speakers are not bad at all. I have it hooked up through a surround sound but when we play the Wii, we have to use the TV speakers and they are very decent.Picture: We have it hooked up to DirecTV HD. The picture is amazing. Watch a cooking show and see how vibrant the colors are on the fruits. We hooked up a blu-ray player and watched a few blu-ray movies. I had heard that going from 1080i to 1080p most people won't notice a difference unless your TV is bigger than 42". Well I can tell you that I definitely noticed a difference and the picture is absolutely amazing. I love watching blu-ray movies on this TV.Installation: We bought a fairly tall stand to put this on. My wife struggled a little bit but the 2 of us were able to lift the TV onto the stand without any problems. ****NOTE**** make sure you keep the TV upright during transportation and never lay it down. The warranty is void if you do and the picture may be compromised. Plasma TVs are not designed to be laid down for any reason.Setup: The easiest part. We hooked up 1 HDMI cable from our sound system that had everything else running through it. The TV detected the active HDMI port and the sound system so it automatically turned to that input. When you turn up the volume on a connected surround sound system, the TV indicates external speakers. The TV turns on quickly and plays a little jingle. It doesn't take forever to warm up like our DLP did.Quality: While I haven't had the TV long, we did purchase a 5-year warranty since it was our first plasma. But for now, this is my impressions.CORNER LIGHT: After reading many reviews on last years B8000 and this year's C7000, I was worried about the light that emits from the corners. I've seen displays of last year's B8000 and this year's C7000 and have VERY easily seen what people are talking about. I took a big gamble in purchasing this TV before I read if people were having issues with this C8000. So let me say... After watching this TV for about 5 hours per day for 3 days... I have NOT seen the light coming from the edges as seen on other sets. And believe me I've been looking. I tried to find it watching the HD feed on Time Warner Cable, Blu-ray's from the PS3, Blu-Ray's from the Samsung 3D Blu-Ray player, watching at night, during the day... Nothing. I just do not see it! LOOKS: This TV looks just amazing. It has a VERY dark black screen. It looks as beautiful turned off as it does on. I was nervous about the brush metal look, but it actually looks very nice and compliments the new chromed four-legged stand. PICTURE: The picture clarity looks incredible. It's as if I'm discovering HD for the first time. This set replaces a Samsung DLP set, so of course this is a vast improvement. Having said that, I have a newer plasma in the bedroom and this set looks much better than that. As with all new LED sets with 240 Hz, there is a bit of the Spanish Soap Opera/Home Video look to it. Some people really like this, some people don't. I really like it. For those of you that don't, you can always turn this feature down or off. To me this makes the picture look very clear and it makes it stand out from the other sets.3D: Along with this TV I purchased the Samsung 3D Bluray player so I can get the 3D startup kit for free. Turning the 3D feature on and connecting the glasses was easy. The intro to Monsters v. Aliens was very cool. The opening scene in outer space looked incredible. The ball tied to a paddle part was funny and kinda made me jump a little. I haven't spent too much time with 3D but I did notice that there were some scenes in the movie that had a double image while wearing the glasses. It doesn't happen a lot, but it is noticeable. You can see this right away during the church scene at the beginning of the movie. It was a little annoying. Excellent LCD (better than my former plasma)By CharlesI've had my LN-T4671F for a couple of weeks now, and I'm very happy with it. I previously owned a Samsung plasma (4254), and this is definitely a better TV.There are numerous good things about this television, including dark blacks, low noise (no noise except what is coming through the source), high-quality panel (low incidence of panel defects seen in earlier LCD televisions), wide range of adjustments available, beautiful picture quality (on par with the best LCDs available), and a very good price for all of this quality (as of Oct 2007 market).There is only one known issue (as of Oct 2007): The TV needs to be set to Game Mode to watch football or soccer. This is a simple On/Off setting in the Setup menu. If the TV is not in Game Mode then football passes or long kicks often (about 50% of the time) exhibit a triple-ball effect. It looks something like this: (o). As it moves on screen, the image of the ball shows a repeated image of it's front (nose) and rear (tail) on either side of it. Most folks will see this triple image, some might just see it as an exaggerated blur (but the triple image is clearly visible when the playback is paused). This should be fixable by a firmware update, and turning on Game Mode fixes it as well, so it's not a big deal. Game Mode does limit the available picture adjustments, but in practice I can get the picture in Game Mode very close to what I get with the full range of adjustments. (The only thing is that Game Mode turns on some image sharpening that is ok with sports, but is not great with cartoons. So, I use Game Mode when watching football and turn it off for regular viewing. A lot of folks find that watching full time in Game Mode is very pleasing. It's a matter of preference).Recommendations for new owners:1. Give it about 100 hours before the picture settles in. The backlight is a bit bright in the first 100 hours, so I found myself slowly adjusting it up during burn-in.2. For basic adjustment try Movie with Standard color, Gamma -1, and color on Auto. After 100 hours, backlight can be turned up to 7 or 8 (unless you watch in a pitch black room), and for TV watching Brightness can be 45-50 and Contrast 70-80. On this TV, brightness sets the black level and contrast sets the white level. Turn the brightness up so that the actual black parts of the picture remain pitch black (ESPN HD SportsCenter is a good source for this. You should see detail in the dark suit jackets, but the shadowed areas on the set should remain rich black). Then adjust the Contrast just to the point that pure white objects (like lights or reflections off of football helmets) are white. You can tweak the contrast up from this point to give the image some snap, but don't go too high (the image can look harsh or washed out).3. Beleive me, it may not be that big of a deal at first, but after a while day after day after day it really becomes annoying.One thing I did notice is the power cord that comes with the TV is NOT very long, maybe 5.5 - 6ft tops. LN46A750By ERI currently have a Sony KDL-40XBR2, and wanted an upgrade, and wasn't sure wether to purchase a KDL-46XBR4 model or this new Samsung LN46A750 model. After doing extensive research, I decided to go with the Samsung LN46A750. I purchased this TV a few days ago, and this tv is simply amazing. The picture quality is excellent, and I must admit, at least to me, is much better than the XBR2 I currently have. Just a note...under one of the settings on the TV, the energy saver setting might be set to AUTO, and if that is the case the contrast will fluctuate. I'm surprised...By etI'm surprised that more people aren't buying this set, or at least reviewing it (which typically is indicative of sales). Really with this set there are only two things that may bother your run-of-the-mill average TV watcher, and that is 1. Glare, 2. Flashlighting/clouding (backlight shining through).On 1 I can honestly say the glare doesn't bother me at all. Some people may not be able to deal with it because they are picky and/or have a really bright room this TV is going into, but that is not an issue to me. Just personal opinion. I would never let that be a factor to me unless it truly bothered me, and it truly does not with this set.On 2 I can say that I did have some initial problems with clouding and it being visible. I used settings posted on Cnet for this TV. They are kind of dark, but you get used to it. This prevents clouding from being as noticeable, but some backlight will bleed through, and it's especially apparent on large TVs. How apparent is it? I am very picky and although I can notice it on a completely pitch black screen, it really doesn't bother me that much during normal TV watching. I have my backlight set at 3 (out of 10), standard mode leaves it at 8. This is way too bright and you will most definitely see some bleed through. There are a few recommended fixes if you have clouding that is poor around the edges. Wiping the entire TV side to side and up and down with a microfiber cloth has worked in limited cases, as well as loosening a few bezel screws along the TVs edge to loosen the pressure and keep the backlight from shining through as brightly. Also limited success stories on this method and I even tried it with no such luck. Changing my settings was the action that gave me the best result. Photographs have proven even TVs that appear as if they have no apparent clouding to the naked eye actually do have clouding, so don't stare at your TV for hours looking for this imperfection, simply find a setting that seems to remove it upon a glance at the TV and move on.Some other cons to point out that you may or may not know about and/or normally wouldn't think they will bother you but might actually. The off angle viewing of this TV is not good. You will see the TVs contrast change dramatically even moving your head 2 feet from the center of the TV sitting 10' away. How big of a deal is that to you? Depends. Some experts have said that this TV is best for one-person and adding multiple people with different viewing angles renders this set to not be preferred. Do I believe that? Not really. I think for most families sitting an appropriate distance from this set probably won't be too irritated at the slight off angle viewing issues. Samsung almost nailed this one.By G. GrayI purchased the HL72A650 after spending 3 weeks with a 73735 Mitsubishi DLP. I purchased the Mits from Best Buy and like all Mits DLPs the color was way off out of the box. I paid Best Buy to do an ISF calibration on the 73735. I quizzed them and they assured me before hand it would be a full calibration. The Best Buy calibration was $250 and so I agreed. The calibration Best Buy did helped immensely, but in fact, despite the claims, Best Buy does not really do a full true calibration. Of course I did not know that at the time. They set brightness, contrast, and sharpness levels, then the set the grayscale but they did not calibrate the primary and secondary colors to spec. The Mits needs the Full Monty calibration it is a mess with out doing that. From what I understand they can look spectacular afterward it a real pro does the full deal and does it right. Mine calibrated by Best Buy not so much. That left me in the position where I would have had to pay an independent to calibrate the set all over again to do the job right it so I returned the 73735 to Best Buy.I then bought the Samsung through Amazon and that experience was excellent with the white glove delivery process. The Sammy has very good color out of the box and it is also quite sharp out of the box. It is strong in the areas where the Mitsubishi is weak. Unfortunately the Samsung uses the Texas Instrument Dark Chip 3. The Mits uses the Dark Chip 4 which has better blacks and significantly better shadow detail resulting in much better overall contrast. The use of the Dark Chip 3 is not really the whole problem by itself. The problem is that at some point Samsung decided to remove the iris from their lamp DLPs light engines. An irus is used on DLPs to deepen blacks on the fly as the screen changes. Perhaps this deletion was done to make the LED DLPs more competitive against the lamp set. The net result is a TV that is very good in most every way except it has poor contrast and black levels for a TV at this price point. Excellent black levels and contrast are typically a given for DLPs. I am keeping the Samsung but I am more than a bit disappointed with it. I also own a 3 year old HP 65" DLP which has an iris and mkes much better blacks. If you can get by with a 67" set, the Samsung LED DLP, HL67A750 will give you the Samsung color accuracy and great blacks with top notch shadow detail. If you need the 72" or larger size, get one of the Mitsubishis but be prepared to spend $300 plus on an ISF calibrator who really knows what he is doing.
